  • I agree with what I saw someone else post. They want people to quit. Blindly forcing RTO is a way to bully employees without being legally "hostile”.

If you quit, you can't draw unemployment.

The company's HR apparently still has to approve it even if you are eligible, but it's at least potentially an option.

  • In order of preference, bottom right, middle left, and middle right.

I love the adorable and wholesome cartoons that KDE includes in its background collections.

  • I'm autistic. I always apparently seem weird to people. That means any time I use a self checkout, the minders stare at me because they think I'm about to steal something. It makes me nervous, and I start getting uncomfortable and self conscious, which I'm sure makes me seem even more suspicious. And either security or the automated system have triggered the "please wait for an associate" so many times. But they always look at the video and tell me "Sorry, this thing is just sensitive/weird/whatever excuse.", then leave me alone.

I'm not going to call it discriminatory, because I don't think it is? But it feels like I have to be on my best behavior or I'll get arrested because I was so focused on trying to pass as "normal" that I missed scanning a tomato. And for the record, I've never stolen anything, even when I was low on food and really needed some stuff I couldn't afford. Hell, I have forgotten to scan something once and went back in to pay for it.

Self checkout sucks, but it's normally still better than waiting in line and interacting face to face with a cashier.

  • Am missing something about my chosen-on-a-whim instance?

  • "I'm not wrong, it's everyone else's fault for not seeing how great I am."

  • You have me curious.

I only have Linux on my machine, and have been an advocate for FOSS for many years. But even then I have to begrudgingly admit Windows does some things better. I don't see why anyone would get all bent out of shape about that. Yeah, evil corporation and massive privacy issues, but that doesn't change its technical merits.

What was it that people got upset over if you don't mind sharing?

  • Holy shit, you're right.

  • When I first got VR, I played Skyrim on PS4. One morning, I woke up to pee and held my hands by my sides as if using an invisible controller to aim my movement and kind of glided across the floor. Realized what I was doing by the time I got to the door.

  • Or just refuse to install it.

  • I got some boxes with "x"s in them. Sad.

  • Still very much worth it, even full price. I haven't played it for years, and I still think about it. It's kind of like Outer Wilds in that respect. Small, but very rich experience. I think there's a DLC out too.

  • Despite how much I agree, I think there's one point worth driving home.

They ARE normal human beings. That's the entire problem. Normal human variety includes self centered pieces of shit as much as it includes selfless heros.

That's why voting and staying involved in politics matters. If you aren't constantly trying to keep these assholes out of power, you lose.

Don't fall for the comfortable lie that genocide and dictators are rare and "can't happen here". That's precisely how they end up happening.

  • Huh, kind of wish there was a column with a few words on why each one was blocked. Kind of curious about them, but don't want to get myself put on a list by visiting the wrong server, you know?

  • Thanks everyone for the server and service. It's appreciated. If I wasn't broke and jobless at the moment, I'd be happy to kick over some monthly money on Patreon or Kofi or whatever people are using these days.

  • Voyager on Android seems to be working fine. 👍

  • Me three.

  • It also tried to save space with auto hiding the sidebar and using global menus built into the panel, instead of having a panel and then a titlebar.

  • Thanks. I'm gonna take some time. May or may not message you. But I appreciate it. I feel less insane now that someone else confirms this is fucked up.

  • Honestly, I don't know. I'll need to think about it. Parts ring true, and others I'm not sure about. I'm in another state now and basically lost my entire social network, resources, etc., so a social worker isn't the worst idea. I just don't know if it will help at all, or if I even qualify. If I need to go anywhere, I'll have to have them drive me until I can see again. They would, but they'd start to get nosey after a while.

Hell, at one point they demanded my username and password to a government website, because they wanted to check and see if I was filling out a certain type of paperwork, and if I was getting any kind of welfare and hiding it from them.

The moment they get a paranoid idea, they run with it. Then they get upset at anyone else if their behavior causes problems, never once stopping to wonder if they were wrong.

    ...

Yeah, an expert might help. I think I'll see if that social worker can do anything. Would you mind if I hit you up with a few questions, if I have any? I honestly might delete this whole thread. It's kind of embarrassing to leave out in public.
