  • @soweli@kbin.social There is certainly some truth to that, but

    1. it gets easeir farily quickly; and
    2. it's worth the effort! Other platforms don't give you the same power and breadth of access across the fediverse.

    You'll find you get more interaction from within kbin (and also from Lemmy) if you use 'Threads' rather than 'Posts' (like this). Posts sit in the Microblog and are more aligned to Mastodon way of working - they are harder to see unless people already follow you.

  • And here I am amused to be reading all the Lemmy centric replies to a Lemmy specific meme ... but doing it from elsewhere on the Fediverse. Here on kbin we interact with Mastodon just like we do with Lemmy. It all looks like one wonderful integrated fediverse from here!

The potential disclosure was reported to special counsel Jack Smith’s team as they investigated Trump’s alleged hoarding of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago 2.

    This report could shed further light on Trump’s handling of sensitive government secrets. Prosecutors and FBI agents have at least twice this year interviewed Pratt, who runs U.S.-based Pratt Industries, one of the world’s largest packaging companies

  • A few things to remember here:

    CEOs aren't daft, they will respond to manipulate the survey results to show what they want it to show. Through no fault by the survey this is likely not what CEOs really think.

    Stated preference surveys are often undertaken to support investment decisions, but it is well known that 'stated preference' and 'realised preference' are often different things.

    ...also for many jobs better candidates will seek out more flexible employers. These same better team members will also more on if there is any suggestion they are being unfavorably treated due to flexible working arrangements. My point is, for many (not all) the employment market will force employers to accept more remote working than happened before the pandemic. There was a trend in this direction even before the pandemic, there is a perspective to say COVID was a catalyst for more remote working, and the return will never be complete.

  • All these things should work on harmony. In some situations busses and bikes don't work as well. Let's say you are going on holiday with luggage.The end game is to reduce the the reliance on personal cars. Right now most people feel they need their own car. Much of this is down to first mile / last mile arguments.Long headways, and high friction interchanges are things AVs could potentially help to eliminate one day. I would actively encourage consideration of multiple pickup and drop off by those AVs - key is we probably want to get people to their doors and we need high frequencies, or ad-hoc departure times to complete with car.

  • These things all complement each other. Busses are great in urban areas, but they don't work well in rural areas, they just don't compare well vs private car when you look at generalized journey times (GJT).

  • I think, eventually, this is where autonomous vehicles will really come into their own.You are absolutely right that first mile/last mile is a barrier for rail travel - but imagine if we could design the station around a fleet of AV's.

    Imagine:Your AV takes you to the station, and parks right next the platform at the exact location along the train for your seat reservation.You wait in your nice climate controlled AV for the train to arrive - hope out and onto the train.

    Meanwhile somebody else gets off the train and uses the AV you've just vacated to complete their journey.

  • Pi zero W has WiFi, alternatively there are hats available. And yes they can run a full Rasbian OS.

  • While I largely agree with you, technically it is still E2EE even if the encryption is very poor (e.g. hey look I shifted every character by one along the ASCII table).Poor encryption could then be broken by a party in the middle.

    All of that said this is a bit irrelevant, if the encryption is so poor the provider can break it at will, so can bad actors. We don't use broken (bad) encryption for a reason.

  • Kbin allows users to do this (noting kbin isn't a client it's a compatible platform).

  • Even that might not be ideal on military equipment. In a war zone if your plane goes down you don't want to advertise to the enemy where to find it and the pilot.
