This is a really late reply but I just read this again and it's surprising how similar the paths you and I have traveled are. I was a Linux guy since 1998 (server side). In about 2002 my company gave me a Macbook because we had to develop for Macs and it became my daily driver for web and email. Since then I have had a succession of Macbooks as daily drivers, I am currently posting this to you from a 2020 MBA. I never had a problem with Apple hardware except their shit laptop keyboards from 2016-2019, but I've always had a Windows desktop around for gaming. I also do music production and atm I have a 2019 MM running Logic (I had a 2016 MBP that since I hated it so much because of the keys, I just was using it for a music machine, but it experienced a mobo failure).
I've completely wiped Windows now. I'm all Macs for laptops/daily/music and Linux for everything else. Happy as can be.
This is their wet dream, but I'll never participate.
Edit: I don't participate now. I pay for no subscriptions, no streaming services, and I use no cloud services. Oh, and I'm now completely Microsoft-free since October last year.
Which won't matter at all once they start losing market share to Microsoft's stupid decisions. The world will not sit on its thumbs because of Fortnight players. And good riddance in any case.
I came here looking for this answer. I'm actually replaying it right now on my Steam Deck via Cemu and having a ton of fun. It was also my first Zelda game and I had zero expectations. It just blew me away and it still does all these years later.
This is a cute exercise in lateral thinking and all but will past me know that it is future me talking? Won't matter what the fuck I say otherwise, the little shit won't be listening to any authority figures.
I've never once posted on the Internet using a real name. I've never been a member of any social anything other than Reddit and Lemmy. I only even found Reddit because an IRC link aggregator I used to browse for news/memes went tits up.
Yeah, reflecting back on the hell he made my life with all that antitrust shit recently really got me ashamed I'd ever slipped and given him any generous thoughts at all. The dude is a piece of shit, through and through.
I'm not saying they're conscious, because not even fully understanding what consciousness is precludes saying that. But it also precludes saying it's "impossible" they are conscious.
Consciousness and AGI however, are two different things. I believe my cat is conscious, but it's not even close to being intelligent. AGI is, you know, a thing. I'm quite certain this dude's LLM isn't AGI because if nothing else, it's not "his" LLM. It's based on a black box public model he knows nothing about and which very likely changes frequently on the back end without his knowledge.
So now we hype them before they're even in pre-release alpha? What the fuck is this? 'You can play the demo now it will hold you over until early access' yeah no, go fuck yourself. After your game's been released for a minimum of 6 months and proves to a) not be shit and b) actually be supported then maybe I will buy it on sale. Fuck off with this Christmas in October shit.
I'm without question one of the 90% and I never thought they were going to require it for everyone. But I don't like the idea that an algorithm is constantly writing a dossier about me to determine my "age" because I wasn't fucking born yesterday.
Open source your shit and make it auditable or I'm not fucking using it anymore.
Market's a pump and dump now. Down 800 today, up 1200 tomorrow. Everything recovers in days or maybe weeks and always to new highs. Even covid recovered in less than a year. This is not a normal market, it's just pretending to be.
I'm pretty certain we're not going to spend our way out of this. If the answer is not to seize the means of production, then we're gonna have to at least seize the means of oppression. Everything billionaires own in any country that means to be free should be seized.
This won't happen, of course, until they wreak a lot more havoc, unfortunately the havoc they are wreaking is not laying the groundwork for the countries that host them to be more free.
