Insufferable FOSS/Linux nerds are ruining Lemmy.

  • I've spent the past 2 days being called names because I am having an issue with download speeds in Linux, and I said Windows is better because in my experience it just works.

Someone literally told me to apologize for saying this, lmao. I'm called an idiot, moron, that I am the problem, all because Linux refuses to work, and the hardcore FOSS/Linux Lemmy community can't handle it.

This place is so tiring. Reddit users were toxic, but Lemmy users are even more so. I guess that's what happens when you get all the banned people, like you said, and a group of people who hate Reddit, in one place. Lemmy reminds me of VOAT. Instead of insane right-wing hate, it's just insane hate to anyone who dares pay money for something, or says something negative about FOSS/Linux.

  • Didn't realize only old people could have organ transplants, cancer, autoimmune disease, or just simply weaker immune systems.

Good thing it's only old people.

  • Again, doesn’t matter if others have had the problem, because there is a way to fix it and plenty of distros ship with it fixed out of the box. Just because you picked a distro that has the problem, and you are too dumb to fix it doesn’t mean linux is broken. Having a choice in distros and packages is a fundamental principle of linux and that sets it apart from Windows where users have no choices.

Ubuntu, Fedora, and Manjaro have it broken out of the box. Please, tell me which Distro has it fixed out of the box? I would love to try and prove you wrong.

Also you're literally proving my point. Linux doesn't "just work" when you need to figure out how to fix it.

How about in Windows when I plug my gopro into it and double click on a video file that it takes 10 seconds before it will start playing? In linux it starts playing instantly. Have you ever tried to run docker services in Windows? It’s an absolute shitshow, but in linux it works flawlessly. See? I can give plenty examples of things working like shit in Windows that work perfectly in Linux. You actually are just an idiot, with no experience, and no idea how computer systems work.

GoPro files run instantly on my PC. Try not having such a potato PC? Not to mention it sounds like in both situations Windows DOES work, in my example, Steam does NOT reach full speed.

What about setting custom keyboard shortcuts? Can’t do it in Windows to the extent of Linux. What about fully customizing your desktop environment? Can’t do it in Windows.

Sounds like you need to learn what words mean. Keyboard shortcuts aren't preventing Windows from working. Customization isn't the same as "just working". Windows does just work. I am not arguing with some asshole on Lemmy about Steam speeds on Windows. It just works.

So just keep trying to cope with the fact that you’re an idiot and you need to used a dumbed down OS that sends off telemetry data and forces ads on you. It’s okay. You’re a dumb dumb and are willing to put up with the shitshow of Windows. It’s okay if you cope by shitting on the superior OS, but it just makes you look like an idiot at the end of the day.

I would use Linux, but it doesn't work, and the 'easy fix' doesn't exist. Linux is the shit show. Has toxic people like you crying and coping and defending it. Sorry it sucks so bad it doesn't even get networking, the most basic functionality in 2023, right.

  • I will tell you how to fix it when you admit that you’re an idiot that has been running their idiot mouth about things they don’t understand… and you apologize for doing it.

Typical response. You don't know how to fix it. Keep yapping your fat mouth, nothing you say is true.

Enjoy acting like a know it all, when in reality you cannot fix a simple Steam speed issue on Linux lmao.

  • Wireless charging isn't the same.

  • Okay, then tell me how to fix it. You say it's easily fixable, tell me.

Or do what everyone else does, tell me how I'm stupid, the problem is me, and then refuse to help fix this "easily fixable" issue. It's because you don't know how to fix it, but you can't admit Linux is broken.

  • You're telling me that my experience means nothing because other people aren't having the issue?

Here's a new thread. See how the first reply is also talking about how this is a common issue, and links to a post from January 2015?

Steam on Linux has been broken for a decade and there's no concrete fix. Sorry your OS is garbage.

The fact all of the Linux nerds who defend Linux and tell me how great it is can't even tell me how to fix it. I thought Linux was so awesome, just worked, and you have full control over it? So then, smarty pants, tell me how to fix this issue that has been an issue for over a decade. I'll wait.

Meanwhile I'll keep downloading games on Windows at 1900Mbps.

  • Lunchtime rest stop?

Where I'm from bus drivers drive from 7am - 9am and then go home and come back for 3:30pm - 5:30pm.

They essentially get the entire work day off. Not just lunch.

  • I saw a video of the latest Tesla model 3 2024 and it has one USB charging port inside the center console lol.

  • If you say anything positive about anything non-FOSS, you're downvoted on Lemmy.

Lemmy is a massive echo chamber.

  • So then what's the issue?

Steam downloads at 1900Mbps on Windows.

Steam downloads at 120Mbps on Linux.

Sounds like a Linux problem. Cope harder, though.

  • How?

And the fact you think it's okay to call someone a moron because in their experience Windows works better, is insane.

Can't wait for Lemmy to fail. Oh wait, it already is. Stats go brrrr 📉📉📉

  • Context matters. You're being disingenuous.

I am literally using Linux right now. Busy spending all my hours trying to fix it and make it work.

And I even attached a screenshot of the Linux desktop.

It's clear that I'm saying that I'm spending hours fixing Linux to make Steam (on Linux) download at full speed, while (Steam on) Windows downloads at full speed.

  • I found my girlfriend just before COVID popped off, but I would argue that dating apps are insufferable now due to how polarizing the world is.

Just having basic conversations with people online, including Lemmy, is so tiring. Like how I was called names for saying Windows just works, and then as I was being attacked for it, I was literally typing the comment from a Linux distro that currently wont allow Steam to download at higher than ~120Mbps, despite my internet being 1900Mbps. Then the guy continued to go off, calling me names, telling me that I am such a moron, all because I showed a live example of how Linux wasn't "just working"?

The internet is so exhausting and toxic these days.

  • I did.

I said Steam downloads slowly. Why would I make the distinction of Steam if I meant the entirety of the Linux OS?

Also I changed to Manjaro and Steam still refuses to download quickly. So much for "just working".

  • Scary

    Jump
  • I just hate the fact if 10mm is too big, I can get 9mm, but if 15/16 is too big, fuck me, I guess. Bringing the full toolbox over because what random fucking bullshit number comes before it?

Like I'm here to fix shit, not do math to figure out which socket is one size smaller.

  • Ya because I got called a moron yesterday because Linux refuses to download steam games at max speed, and it's somehow my fault. Lol

  • In the uncensored footage he loses like all of his blood before he exits the ice. How he managed to even get up is beyond me.

  • Reddit is doing better than Lemmy. Have you seen Lemmy statistics lately? 📉

Edit: Lemmy users mad about facts.
