    Russia isn't conquering the world anytime soon. So what would you rather have? a more multipolar world where russia has a relatively safe and solid position after showing that it won't be bullied into submission by nato (with the whole world watching), or a world where russia is balkanized into several statelets without the political, economic or military strength to resist capitalist infiltration?

    We saw what happened last time russia got defeated. We lost a bastion of socialism, we saw tens of millions impoverished while a few capitalits dismantled everything that the USSR had built, and the whole thing ushered 40 years of hegemonic atlantist domination.

    So yeah, i am rooting for the "neoliberal protofascist dictatorship". There is a reason why literally nobody in the global south sanctioned Russia. 75% of the planet is reasoning the same way i am.

  • this is a topic i really hate arguing about because, in the short term, voting does matter. If you are part of a vulnerable demographic, say you are trans, you have a lot at stake and i won't blame you for picking the best of two neoliberal parasites.

    Of course we understand that not voting is beneficial in the long term because it will eventually delegitimize the system. But i say that from the privileged position of a young, white, cishet male - there are a lot of people who would not survive this kind of approach.

    I'm all for the "end justifies the means/sacrifices must be made" type of reasoning, but it is ultimately a choice we can't force onto the marginalized people that WILL suffer consequences if we "let go" of politics and let the overton windows slide to the right until it collapses.

    My suggestion is to just avoid this topic. You have nothing to gain by arguing with someone who wants to vote. It's like being vegan and arguing with a normal person. Yeah, maybe you can get them to recognize that we eat too much meat - but sure as hell they won't stop doing so, and you just wasted your time

  • i've been saying this since the beginning. A lot of people, specially students, have been rushed out of the country. Several of them, specially girls, are to this day unaccounted for. They were rushed into trains to be shipped either back to their country or to western ukraine, some of them definitely never ended up where they were supposed to.

  • I think people REALLY romanticize guerrilla fighting a lot... It's not just about surveillance, there are several modern advancements that make guerrilla fighting in a modern nation ineffective at best and suicidal at worst.

    Just look up any video of the ukrainian war. The ease and precision with which modern militaries can locate and hit targets is so high that even modern, trained soldiers find themselves with a thermobaric grenade on their lap while sitting inside a camouflaged bunker.

    Also, the western population just does not have the skills to survive in a guerrilla settings. Most americans can barely cook, you think they have a chance at surviving and maintaining a healthy body while living as guerrillas? Vietnamese villagers definitely had that in them, Jaycee from the free greater Seattle area maoist polycule most likely does not.

    The only people in the west who might have a chance at guerrilla fighting are former soldiers and such - a demographic which is not gonna be on our side

  • i'd say DC has some pretty big misses but can also churn out decent movies every once in a while. The new batman movie is very good imo, far better than anything marvel has produced in the last 15 years - just on the account of it having SOME creativity compared to marvel's lack thereof

  • yeah, the real turning point was when they moved away from the main characters (captain, thor, ironman, hulk to a lesser extent) and tried to replicate the same success with characters nobody had ever heard of and that pretty much only exist on paper as a footnote in a comic from 40 years ago.

    yeah, maybe Robert Downey Junior as Iron Man could convince me to pirate your movie - but i ain't gonna be as excited for generic buff actor #8274 playing in a movie about the origins of the feared vigilante "the brown meerkat"
