  • Yeah, woah. What a surprise!

  • Xbox does not have any unique rights to the ABXY button layout nor the green, red, blue, yellow of them, so anyone is free to do what they like with those buttons and Xbox has no right to sue them. This is unlike PlayStation, who have given themselves rights over the Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle buttons.

I don't know why, exactly. Nintendo used ABXY before Xbox did. My guess would be that Nintendo couldn't simply copyright letters, so Xbox was able to freely copy it.

  • Don't worry, people are just too easily offended. It was obvious to me this was a genuine question.

  • That actually sounds amazing. I want that so much.

  • It definitely seems like that kind of game. I didn't really learn many combat moves while playing through, so by the time I got to the first boss, I was utterly stuck. 13 deaths and nearly 1 hour later I finished up for the night. The next day I started a second save file just to practice the combat moves, and ended up getting all the way up to the same boss fight lol. I got him down to his last bit of health and dropped out. So I'm going to return to my first save file tomorrow and finally whoop his ass.

  • I started Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time this week. I jumped into it blind, and wasn't expecting it to be so hard. But I'm really enjoying it so far, about 5 hours in.

  • If you twisted a gear connected with a physical scrollbar clockwise, the scrollbar would move down. So think of the touchpad like a gear. Pretty on-theme with Steam lol.

  • For those who don't know, the title doesn't exactly explain that this is not a "next-gen" style upgrade for Nier Automata Switch 1 owners. The game does not have enhanced graphics or an increased framerate cap, it is simply a Switch 2 firmware update that makes the original Switch 1 version actually work correctly on Switch 2, since the game had issues running on Switch 2 until now.

  • I'm just disappointed the game still isn't available on GOG, as much as this is a great update. They have First Encounter, Second Encounter, Serious Sam 4, and even the spinoff Serious Sam: Bogus Detour... But still no Serious Sam 2 or 3.

  • That's weird. I've only had two or three old, presumably unmaintained Linux ports not launch on my PC. I use AMD hardware. It appears for native Linux ports that they need to be maintained more to continue fully functioning over many years. In that regard, Wine/Proton can be much better for old games then native, but I've only had that with a few games as I mentioned, all of which were 10-15yr old ports.

  • I didn’t disagree with their clarification of what they meant.

Isn't the clarification of what they meant, also the exact same thing as what they originally said? They clarified what they meant by what they said, not by the context that you think they didn't provide in the original text, so in my eyes they did say the same thing as what they clarified to you. You just didn't seem to understand the original text, when in it, they specifically said they wanted to know what Linux distro would work best based on specs for gaming... Which brings us back to your original reply to OP. Why did you say "If you have to ask someone else whether you should switch then you should not switch."? Because the only reason I can find, is if you misunderstood and thought they were asking if they should switch to Linux in a general sense, rather then specifically based on their specs for gaming. Many people downvoted your comment including myself (because I felt you were misunderstanding OP's question), and I think most other downvoters did so for the same reason... so it would be good to know if we just misunderstood your point. But it doesn't seem so when OP had to clarify to you what they meant and everyone else commenting already seemed to get it.

    /s to make a point

I don't get what you mean. I know what /s means but I'm very confused what you're trying to say. That "I disagree" what sarcastic?

  • I did not tell OP that I disagreed with them, you misunderstood.

    Didn't you?... Did I?... What's this then?:

    You (rah):

If you have to ask someone else whether you should switch then you should not switch.

    OP (WIZARD POPE):

I am asking if my hardware will enable me to have a good experience since I know nvidia has issues on linux. (Note: Exactly what I thought OP was asking)

    You (rah):

    Your post doesn’t ask that.

    OP (WIZARD POPE):

The main text kinda does. Maybe I worded it a bid badly.

    You (rah):

    I disagree.

Please explain to me what part of the two-word sentence "I disagree" is not you disagreeing.

I haven’t commented on what they meant, only on what they said.

Yes, and you wouldn't have commented on what they said if you didn't first interpret what you thought they meant. OP clarified to you what they meant, and you disagreed with them, that they meant what they said they meant, which is what was so stupid about your "I disagree" response. I don't see what's so difficult to understand for you.

  • Correction: Switch 2 Back-compat is not emulation. It is a compatibility layer in the same vein that the Steam Deck runs Windows games despite running on Linux.

  • Fine, I'll add to my sentence for clarification, but (no offense) it should be obvious I'm referring to gaming since the whole topic is about... gaming on Linux.

They’re asking based on their specs whether Linux will run fine for them, with Gaming.

The title was "Thinking of switching my gaming desktop to Linux. Should I?" In the post, they said:

My main question now is just what distro works best for gaming (considering my specs).

So therefore they're asking whether they should switch to Linux (for gaming) based on their specs. OP even told you that's what they were saying, but you said "I disagree"...

You can't with any sound reasoning disagree that OP asked something, when not only is there the OG post as proof, but they also told you (in implication) that you misunderstood. OP knows what they meant by what they said - you can't tell them they don't know what they meant, when they're literally the person who said it. I get it that you're having a hard time understanding how what they said, means what they said it does, but you're allowed to accept that you misunderstood. You're allowed to be wrong.

  • This is why I personally think Bazzite should only be installed on devices you intend to only game on, especially if you have any intention of learning any more about Linux than the absolute basics. It'll be fine for a while for beginners, but you're bound to bump into some things that are a hassle to install and/or keep updated. Perfect examples being for consolafying a PC for playing on a living room TV, or installing it on a handheld PC (Steam Deck etc.)

  • They're asking based on their specs whether Linux will run fine for them. Not whether they should switch based on usability. Having to ask if your specs can run Linux fine is not a reason not to switch.

  • Loaded up Steam yesterday and saw the news about Splitgate 2 coming out. I said to myself "Let me guess, they're proudly blocking Linux, right?"

Today I opened up Lemmy. This post, right up top.

  • I couldn't remember if I was connected to Wi-Fi or not on the phone when I made the post, so I made another post to another game page on the phone (while connected to Wi-Fi) and it worked just fine.

My PC is also connected to the same Wi-Fi as you'd expect.

What I did notice strangely, is that I can make comments on my PC, I just can't make posts. When I make a comment, I appear to have the same issue where it endlessly says "Please Wait. Processing...". Except, if I actually go back to the post I tried to comment on and refresh the page, my comment successfully appears. It just doesn't work that way when making my own post for some reason.

Someone here suggested I check the browser console for errors. I checked, and I get multiple errors in LibreWolf.
