  • I'm with you on being against capitalism, but UBI isn't convincing as a solution to me.

UBI pre-supposes that the rich and their corporations should have a monopoly on the means of production, and you still have capitalism, just that the population are guaranteed an income via high taxes. But the power structure, and undemocratic nature of capitalist controlling everything still exists.

UBI is some dystopian stuff if you don't combine it with getting rid of the ruling class and the other tools of capitalist oppression.

But yeah, I agree with you that we certainly ought to be working less than we are (yes, even if standards of living were more fairly distributed to poor countries), and in the future I also agree with you that we ought to be working way, way less of technology allows for it.

  • No worries friend :)

You can place things anywhere down to the pixel, not just snapped to a grid like with Nova (though, there is option for a grid of apps, also).

It's a bit of fiddly process if it's complicated, but you can layer and place things however you want.

There is no dock, you can however pin items to show on every screen, which is basically the same thing, so that would also fit that criterion.

Also 4 swipe directions on icons for extra shortcuts beyond tap (last I used nova, it was just up and down? It's been many years).

Basically, can highly recommend Total Launcher, though in fairness, I have not tried some of the other launchers listed by others here.

The one time fee for pro is pretty affordable, iirc. The Dev is also pretty responsive via email

  • If crazy levels of customisation is the reason you use it, Total Launcher did the trick for me.

  • I'm in this picture and I don't like it

  • How does this have so many upvotes? As long as it's actually possible to ride your bike in your city, the cost of buying and then maintaining a bicycle is WAY, WAY, cheaper than a car

Props to you, it's not pathetic at all.

  • Only works in Timberborn because of the lack of capitalism 🥲

We won the 40 hour work week like 150 years ago, and we're still working pretty much that...

Yes, but similarly, the god of the gaps is pretty hard to ignore.

There will be questions we never will have the answer to, and if you're actually serious about the scientific method as a philosophy, you aren't uncomfortable with "we don't know".

To me, a mysterious universe is more wondrous than "god did it" and yes, I do very much question religious scientists, despite many great scientists being religious.

If you're willing to just believe things "just because" then how can I trust you'll actually apply the scientific method (also a philosophy) reliably?

I can happily coexist and work with mildly religious scientists/engineers, but I would straight up refuse to work with a creationist or someone born again. Religion is anti-scientific.

Religion vs science is not a false dichotomy, despite it being possible to be religious and a scientist at the same time.

  • I still think it's crazy that people aren't calling for the abolition of presidential pardons.

Seems like a system that was just WAITING for abuse.

  • To me this attitude is the equivalent of telling a comedian to "stick to comedy" when they make jokes about politics, or how "woke" sci-fi is when they make commentary on society.

These things are intertwined, to a large degree.

  • This is why I've just never liked super hero universes.

In isolation, it's passable, fun even, and I've enjoyed some marvel stuff.

When they actually try to do world building, it's just so, so bad.

This is my opinion, apologies to those who generally like the Marvel universe, but I just can't stand it. (Based on the handful of films I've seen or heard about).
