Yep, we've been dealing with the !!FUN!! of the new licensing changes at work. My boss strongly doubts Broadcom will just stop honoring the perpetual licenses, as they've claimed they might. Although I agreed with him, I ended up convincing him to just get the stupid subscription. The joys of enterprise software plans. :D
Yay for a UPS! I need to get around to buying one for my NAS, as the power in my area is touch-and-go when the weather gets rough. Also, you're on ESXi for a homelab? Is there some kind of personal use license that you can get for it, or are you shelling out cash for a regular business license?
This post made me realize my interest in homelab stuff isn't particularly interesting lol. As for niche stuff, I like old Minecraft trivia despite not really being in love with the modern game anymore.
What's your favorite car, and why is it the Volvo 242? (I'm partial to the earlier ones from the mid-late 70's, but the early 80's turbos are cool as well.)
I finished my new^2 NAS last week (for the most part). Everything has been gracefully moved over, and now I just need to tear the entire thing apart again so I can dremel out a PCI slot so it'll fit a graphics card. I'm great at planning ahead. :D
I haven't noticed much of an uptick per se, at least in the posts I've seen browsing all. There was a recent uptick in low-effort America bad posting out of certain communities, but I haven't seen much in the way of red fascist bs.
That... might actually be smart. I really can also just do a better job of checking, since I only have to walk like 30 second to see inside the garage area where people drop stuff off.
Trouble is I live in the middle of nowhere so it's rare for me to find local listings for stuff. I do have a thrift store conveniently located right next to me, but they seldom have furniture. :(
Granted, they do still have furniture on occasion, I just need to do a better job of looking for it!
And here I am with half of my stuff still in totes after half a year of living in my current place 😅 In my defense proper furniture costs money and I'm stuck paying for electrolysis until August
I talked about this later on in the other thread, but I came out to my sister (probably the one member of my family who isn't completely deranged), and she was super accepting! We met up again the day after for Easter at my mom's, and she gave me a bag with a bunch of her old clothes and some extra makeup stuff. 🥹
I'm specifically interested in seeing how the transition from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice goes. My boss has been pondering the possibility of migrating us from Word and Excel to Writer and Calc. My concern, as someone who exclusively uses LibreOffice at home, is those edge-cases where another entity sends us a document that has some weird behavior that might not be properly replicated in LibreOffice. I don't know much about the German government's typical document practices, but I think this will be a good case study on the viability of LibreOffice in a more serious production environment.
Playing on my Oldschool Runescape ironman. I'm currently grinding out cooking so I can cook my own sharks. Other than that it's a bunch of stupid farm runs. >:(
Hey! I was waiting for the next weekly update thread to come up, but I think Alyaza is otherwise occupied. Things went better than I ever could have hoped. She's completely accepting. Shoot, she might even be more excited about the whole thing than I am!
She said she'd probably have a lot of questions, which I'm obviously cool with. She loves the name I'm probably going to go with. She's down for clothes shopping, but I'm on my own with makeup because all she's ever used is mascara and eyeliner. What really got me was what happened the day after. We had Easter Sunday dinner at my mom's house. She showed up after I did, and she had a bag with her that she put in my car. I opened it when I got home to find that it was full of some of her old clothes + some extra makeup supplies. I genuinely couldn't have asked for more from her. 😭
I'd personally be a tiny bit put off, but it certainly wouldn't have been a dealbreaker for me.
Edit: Having reflected on it, I think that, if the vibes were good, I wouldn't have minded at all. I suppose it's just one of those things that you feel out in the moment. Don't let it bug you too much; you're a cool bee. :)
We had a similar thing happen at my boarding school a ways back. 3+ days without power and not allowed to leave campus. Not fun!
