Hi! I'm British, I like music (grime, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and more!). I like art, culture, history, politics, & doomscrolling memes.

Also a touch of programming :)

  • Both uBlock Origin and my piHole are blocking prod.vodvideo.cbsnews.com (which is the video autoplaying). My browser (Librewolf) also blocks it - as blocked because the triggering iframe has the sandbox flag set.. Stuff like this always is down to your own set up.

  • nvm figured it out edit: it's webgl being disabled in about:preferences#librewolf - figure it out via hamburger menu > more tools > web developer tools > console, and seeing errors about WebGL pop up.

  • Looks good until you zoom in a little

  • god she's a genuine ghoul and I can't wait to stop hearing about her.

Click this and then try to post a comment. There's the issue.

The script redirects all links to your home instance. You posted that comment from https://lemmy.zip/ which is where you have your account, hence no issue. If I link you this post from another instance (see above), you won't be able to interact.

  • Is there a way to change this behaviour?

How do you fix missing characters from uncommon scripts? I already have Noto Sans Newa font installed on my computer

  • exit50 seems to suggest Firefox is German and Brave is Swiss which is.... not the case

  • I'm logged in on sh.itjust.works, I'm not logged in or have an account on lemmy.ml. If I want to interact with posts from lemmy.ml, I want to do so from my home instance of sh.itjust.works whre I'm logged in and have my main account.

YSK if you browse Lemmy on desktop/in browser, the Lemmy Universal Link Switcher script makes browsing between instances significantly less annoying

Is there any downside to disabling accessibility.force_disabled in about:config if you don't use accessibility tools?

  • That's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about the associated/supported links that the app will try to open by default. Sure, that seems to work, and so does this https://ani.social/post/11480352?scrollToComments=true ... except if I try to navigate to that URL from my browser/outside of Boost.

Some lemmy instances just aren't associated with Boost at all, so the app can't open them natively, e.g this for example https://endlesstalk.org/post/86819672 will take you to the apps browser-view/open outside of Boost regardless of where you click it.

  • Boost for Lemmy @lemmy.world

Any chance we could get an expansion of the apps associated links?

  • Might be worth bringing it up in the voyager community. That definitely shouldn't be the case.

  • They do not. Are you using Sync for Lemmy? It's broken and doesn't hide properly

  • Also use the hide read posts setting

  • uBlock Origin should be just fine. Have you messed with the settings at all? It won't block everything straight out the box. You may need to add some filter lists and change your blocking mode.

I also use NextDNS though alongside uBlock.

  • It should work fine. Filtering by one instance will show all Lemmy content. You can use a script to ensure you always land back on your instance.

  • It's still worth posting, a lot of people browse Lemmy only using the /all feed.

Is this something sh admins are aware of? "Many Lemmy instances are misconfigured, which can break progressive video streaming and even basic image loading in strange ways."

TIL there're hundreds of recognised sub-national monarchies all across Africa. While no longer sovereign, these monarchies retain political, cultural, and religious influence in their communities
