  • A lot of people are saying Capitalism. Is it straight up capitalism that is the scam or the myth of financial mobility? (the American dream)

  • I don't know if it is quite as simple as that. Most recently the bank failures were because those banks got upside down on bond holdings due to rate increases. If everyone chilled out and took their money out in appropriate time, then the bank would have had all the money. They just couldn't get all the money immediately due to the duration of their bond holdings.

  • a Shapiro-esque fit

    🤣🤣🤣

    I'm using that line

  • Les piscines sont froid et sale.

  • This encapsulates the public response to building nuclear. I guess that is why it is the first in decades.

  • It's not from ignorance. It's based on the people I know from China.

  • I mean, if you haven't been there or don't know anyone from there you could pretend they are a democracy, but they are authoritarian like Russia is authoritarian. Long term they will seek a wider swath to be authoritarian over.

  • Yeah, China was a major ally, but it is showing its dark (autocratic) side lately.

  • I think this flies a bit too far in the other direction. China is totalitarian. It is not a democracy. It is also increasingly antagonizing nations abroad. I think it is valid to consider it a threat if you are any other nation, period.

    Edit: Kinda like Russia

  • I guess you would have to sift the scientific literature to get a general idea. It would be the least biased source. Being totalitarian really helps with nuclear. Just look at what Germany has been up to.

  • The tech has been known for decades. It just needs clean hydrogen. You can either go the hydrogen fuel cell route, or combine it with CO2 to make liquid fuel, but the source of hydrogen is the crux of the problem.

  • Is LibreOffice the dominant Microsoft suite competitor? I used to use OpenOffice, but it was kind of bad.

  • Is this discontinued? My phone does this.

  • That's true anywhere in the country though. Not a lot of blue rednecks.

  • They aren't all that communist anymore.

  • I was in Amsterdam when a biker elbowed my friend for being close to the bike lane. The bigger the city, the less anyone gives a shit about each other. Even if you give bikes their own space, you'll have a few ass holes that ruin it for everyone.

  • It sounds like you want to move to Oregon or Washington. They have way better climates than Michigan.

  • See communist China for a primer on why it's not a great idea to discourage success.

  • Here in Montreal we have the hottest muggiest summers and the brutalest freezing cold winters. It makes me want to move to the maritimes.
