  • I think those are symptoms of more general trend - IT is not a tool to make people’s lives easier or fun anymore. Until last 5 years all my projects were about making things possible or automating tedious manual tasks. Now, for almost all use cases there is some solution or components you (or AI) can slap together to build a solution. Today it’s all about cutting costs and increasing margins. There is nothing fun or creative in this job, all feedback you get is lower numbers on dashboard. Budgets are squeezed to make more profit, so there is no time to get bored and improve things around you.

    Look, in my IT company, I have to track my time in 3 different system and no-one cares because there is no ROI in automating it. That should tell you in which state IT is

  • Don’t know what you mean by based. Yes, same banks are backing WERO as iDEAL. WERO site explicitly says it’s new infrastructure and they are migrating, not upgrading.

    But it’s also has nothing to do with WERO vs BLIK. WERO-backing banks don’t give a shit about Poland’s users. Or they simply do not operate in Poland. Say ING, they operate in Poland since 1988 but didn’t manage to rollout neither iDEAL nor WERO. Moreover Polish branch of ING supports BLIK. I don’t know why they cut off Polish users from WERO.

    I’m pretty sure both BLIK and WERO banks would like to keep tech for themselves for sometime to make it selling point against competitors on local markets.

  • Kessler is inevitable. Today, no one will cancel satellite launch because others asked them not to. Since humanity is not capable of cooperating we will end up with satellites Cold War. We actually in it already. I’d rather let them learn the hard way and make them all crash, than use it for military advantage. Yeah, some satellites are useful like wildfire monitoring and GNSS, others are either flex or military. Maybe loosing all those useful one will make humanity cooperate and lunch only what really necessary in coordinated and transparent way
