  • Can't help you with awnings, but you should invest in some cellular shades for your windows. We have the same problem, the entire length of our house, with the rooms we spend the most time in, faces west and from about 1pm-740pm it gets uninterrupted full sun, and brother it is HOT. Even with regular blinds you can feel the temperature increase from one side of the house every step as you walk towards the other side.

Cellular shades are a GAME CHANGER. They fold up into basically nothing when not in use, and when you pull them down the heat stays out. It rules, and it's a very affordable and easy to install fix while you build your awnings. You will not regret them.

  • Unless I'm mistaken they've always been based in Texas. Like look at their corporate license, they're incorporated in Texas. SpaceX isn't moving shit, he's just talking out his ass per usual.

  • Half the country votes for a party that is totally anti-worker because said party tells them they're pro-worker on TV... so that's not really all that surprising.

  • I am American and I am not offended by this. I'm not even sure I disagree

  • So switching from propane to methane. Cool. Coooool. Cool cool cool.

  • No "hot" starts mid April and worsens until about late September. Spring goes until June, Texas isn't special it doesn't get its own season exceptions.

  • Not that long ago, I got downvoted to hell (by shills) for pointing out that oil companies latched on to the term "natural" and paired it with "clean burning" and then deliberately obfuscated the fact that natural gas is methane. There is nothing clean about it, it is burning methane.

So for anyone that doesn't know, natural gas is methane and oil companies have ALWAYS known it's terrible to burn and worse to drill for because it leaks directly to the atmosphere where it's significantly worse than CO2.

  • Your first download should be a guide on punctuation my brother.

  • If not Threads, how do we turn this FOSS venture free of corporate interference into a new avenue for a mega corporation to harvest all of our data for profit?

If not Threads, how will we ever ruin this place by turning it into Reddit?

If not Threads, who will I shill for?

  • Picking a better instance for your main is most advisable. Users can accept that the primary benefit of a free and open source federated service can also sometimes inconvenience them, or they cannot. Complaining about the core mechanic of the technology that literally cannot change is silly IMO. Corporate owned centralization leads to enshittification. Your account age indicates that you know that first hand.

  • Reddit syndrome still affects a lot of users here, who view having multiple accounts on different answers as an inconvenience instead of a feature of the platform design. The irony is that tons of users on Reddit had lots of accounts without batting an eye, but that extra step of having to lick a new instance is just SO complicated.

  • Because the average person is stupid and will pay $4 for fucking water because it looks like an energy drink.

  • My wife went with her dad to see Oppenheimer last summer. She texted me 25 minutes in that the previews had just ended.

    Fuck everything about that.

  • The best part is that their previous sand dune was removed by storms and high tides in 2022, so their solution was to build another sand dune, which took a year, and was immediately removed by storms and high tides.

You can't make this shit up.

  • I do not need to convince you of anything, my dude.

  • Most condos appreciate in value, and an HOA fee is not that same as literally having to lease the space your home is on.

  • It's missing way more of them if you're colorblind! 🥲

  • Someone else touched on it but mobile home parks can actually be very exploitative because the home isn't actually mobile, it can generally never be moved again, but the owner has no claim to the land. So it's all the downsides of owning a home AND renting with literally none of the upsides. The home doesn't appreciate, and you have no control over your future payment, and can even be evicted from your home that you own outright. Without some change there, they are not a solution.

To your point though, building housing developments organized like mobile homes could be viable, however if you're going to use up that much land you really should also build vertically to make the most of it. But then you get into the same issues we have now, building up costs a lot more, no longer stays affordable, etc.

  • I'm reading more and watching movies way more. I LOVE movies. Sometimes in the 2010s I completely lost the ability to watch movie without being on my phone. My goal is to change that
