My apologies that you feel that way, but that is not my intention and is the reason I made the avatar a robot - to be transparent. Also on day 1, I put in the bio of that profile that it is a bot and how to contact me, I have not tried to hide the fact it is a bot in any way.
Want to just let the admins know my reasoning for not checking the box, here is what I posted in the other post where I was tagged:
@BettyWhiteInHD@lemmy.world my apologies for not replying, I read your message while updating a bunch of code for the bot and forgot to reply.
When I made L4s I had gone through Lemmy’s Code of Conduct, and didn’t see where that was required for bots? If I misunderstood the Code of Conduct I will gladly mark it as a bot, or if the admins of lemmy.world clarify to me they want it to be done. Please let me know if you are aware of where it is required, as I want to abide by the the rules here, and don’t want to annoy anyone. Maybe [removed tag to not double notify Ruud] could clear this up for me, I know he is extremely busy though.
The goal of L4s is to help jump-start communities and content, and I felt 99% of people uncheck “show bot accounts” since they don’t want what would be the equivalent of “automod”, spellchecker bots, etc to show up - not something that’s bringing them content they subscribed to or previously enjoyed on reddit.
So far it’s helped multiple communities that way (see !technology@lemmy.world prior to its posts, and a few days after, it’s now the largest "active users" community on all instances), and has sparked a lot of conversations in the posts. The reason I bring that up is most have not complained about the fact it’s not checked, even though I do not hide that it’s a bot in any way, and most enjoy seeing the content it posts. Checking that would mean that those who don't quite understand there are content bots, would no longer see these posts.
Also, yes, I’m a mod here. My role irl is very deeply technology related, that is what I enjoy. In my free-time I have been trying to make Lemmy.World one of the best instances as far as content, and helping keep !technology@lemmy.world on-topic and toxic free.
Edit: I've realized I'm wrong below. A bot is a bot, and mine is no exception. Sorry to anyone who felt deceived, that was not my intention.

If you have proxmox at home, play with docker in a VM, there are a great deal of docker images you can throw up and play with to help you understand. Once you get that down, play with building docker images to wrap your head around that, then best to copy the image that's being used in your work infra if you need to make changes, then throw it up on another test VM to ensure you don't break anything before pulling it into the live environment.
As for how the docker infra is setup, your explanation is pretty vague as far as what the images are doing, so nobody will really be able to tell you without that information - but my vet would be resources and/or segmentation
A hippo has attacked a 2-year-old boy in Uganda, swallowing half of his body before spitting him out, a statement from the Uganda Police Force said on Friday.
The child was attacked on December 4 at around 3 p.m. local time (7 a.m. ET) in the Katwe-Kabatoro district, in the southwest of the country, according to the statement.
The boy, named by Ugandan police as Iga Paul, had been playing at his home in Rwenjubu cell, Lake Katwe.
“It took the bravery of a one Chrispas Bagonza, who was nearby, to save the victim after he stoned the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the victim from its mouth,” a spokesperson for Uganda Police Force said in the statement.
The boy was taken to a nearby clinic for injuries on one hand and later transferred to Bwera Hospital, west Uganda, for further treatment, the statement added.
The child has now been discharged after making a full recovery, police said. He also received a vaccine for rabies, before being handed back to his parents by the police.
“Although the hippo was scared back into the lake, all residents near animal sanctuaries and habitats should know that wild animals are very dangerous,” the statement said.
“Instinctually, wild animals see humans as a threat and any interaction can cause them to act strangely or aggressively.”
Known as one of the most dangerous animals on the planet, hippos can snap a canoe in half with their strong jaws, according to National Geographic.
I agree with all of this, but some people like reddit for other reasons, say, /r/videos for example. Lemmy is currently lacking that, and if we can fill that piece it would mean a lot less users even thinking about reddit. That's mine and a few other's goals here, make it so nobody even considers going to reddit.
My annoyance with L4s stemmed from the feeling I'd been more or less "tricked" into replying to a non-human
Definitely not my intentions with L4s, L3s (Layer 3's, I'm a nerd) is usually my gamer tag and I thought it was an easy way to associate it with myself, and it's also easy to type. I tried to be transparent by having a robot avatar, and adding in the "bio" that it is a bot, but understand people don't typically look at that unless they're snooping on someone. Also, a lot of L4s' posts have a lot of comments in them, even if you reply to a bots post, others are likely to see and comment back if the bot is helping gain the community some attention (which L4s seems to be doing well at).
you can't change your user, so you'd have to start over.
Honestly, the bot account is just to create content, so "starting over" wouldn't matter to me. If more people also express feeling tricked by the name, I'll gladly do that. But I agree and would rather not: as you mentioned, having bot in the name would most likely limit interactions.
Just replying seems to be in the right direction, but that's going to take up more and more time the more popular this place gets
I think there might be some confusion, my plan is to pull L4s off communities after they gain traction, then focus on new communities that seem stagnant, as long as I do that then replying shouldn't be too difficult. Tomorrow (after checking with other mods) I'm pulling from Technology for example, and in a few weeks will probably be pulling from Politics, once I pull one I'll find a new community to hopefully help.
Now that I'm also able to pull direct reddit video links I'll probably focus more on some of those communities next as they seem bare here, and they're one of the things I enjoyed with reddit.
Of course, if people are really against the bots, I'll just shut it all down. My goal is to help Lemmy strive, not burn it down.
I'm the one hosting L4s, my apologies that it annoyed you. Just trying to help jump-start communities and bring more content to Lemmy.
What could I do differently with it to make it less annoying? In my limited free-time I'm also trying to reply to comments on those posts under this account, my intentions are not to smother anyone with posts, but people leave communities and don't attempt to contribute when there is no content already there.
Been a bit since I've messed with MSGraph, but I remember it being a pain. If you're not comfortable with it, maybe use a dummy device like a VM and test user and see what it wipes?
If I remember correctly, they had a lot of similar items under different modules which made it hard to figure out.
I don't disagree, but it's definitely a shame the decentralized platforms are hard for the average user. Most want a video feed, ease of use, and loads of content. While we are getting there with content, the other two are currently lacking.
Hopefully we can make the ease-of-use thing a reality, it's not realistic to explain to non-tech people how to utilize Lemmy, kbin, etc. Most will lose interest really fast
On-prem infrastructure is way less fun than having a full cloud stack, how are you enjoying that, and are there any big snags you all have run into?
Currently in the process of doing the same at work, we mainly utilize file servers(already migrated to SharePoint), DC's (in process of going full AAD, Endpoint Manager[intune], AutoPilot), and Print Servers (currently testing full cloud solution to replace). This would allow us to be "server less" and no on-prem infrastructure aside from switching/routing/firewalls, and we can segment our network completely since users won't need to talk to anything on-prem anymore.
I'm doing it with communities that need a jump start, and it seems to be sparking conversation in those posts. However, I'm not grabbing discussions for them to come over.

Edit: also trying not to spam, it checks top posts once an hour, and only will post one link an hour to each sub.
