Have seen this firsthand at the place I work, but for backfills, not even additional staff (haha as if they would increase headcount)…. But the trick really is that they’re hiring temp heads in an attempt to outsource more roles without making redundancies.

Oh goodness!! Hopefully she is all recovered now, I know it can be a bit stressful when they are dealing with that and not allowed to run like crazy for a bit!!

Yes he (Pickle) is an iggy but he is only 7 months old (despite being massive in comparison to the other one who is just over a year).

The smaller one (Devon) is just a tiny one in general, we went to an iggy meet-up the other week and I was shocked to see him compared to pretty much all the others 😅😅

What breed is yours? And also have you found that she gets more dark spots (freckles I guess) when she is in the sun a lot? Mine is young and I’ve been trying to keep sunscreen on him but I’m scared he will get burned or something with his light skin!

Don’t disagree, ironic the US started largely as a protest about taxation without representation and now the US has become one of only two countries to tax their overseas citizens.

Not to mention the situations with Puerto Rico, Washington D.C and other territories (like Guam and the US Virgin Islands) who are also taxed but do not have representation.

So… let’s take in even more money and disenfranchise people further despite clear ties to the UK?

A visa application is around £1k (on average) for a 2.5 year visa, plus £1k/year IHS surcharge (extra NHS supplement, no exclusions for those in work).

Plus any fees for getting to a processing place or premium service (visa application timelines can be 3+ months, and sometimes getting appointments at these places requires extra payment because they never have “standard” appointments available).

So for an extra 5 years before ILR eligibility it’s an additional £7k+, assuming the applicant doesn’t need any legal advice or urgent processing time.

Then £3k for ILR (which can take 6 months unless you shell out an extra £k for priority processing), but you still can’t vote even with permanent residency, and having to deal with immigration every time you enter the country (even when I had ILR I would occasionally get grilled and I am privileged enough to be white and from an English speaking country).

Absolute joke. They’ll certainly reduce immigration by showing just how isolationist we seem to want to be and we will all suffer for it.

Separately, I think it would be better to allow people on asylum/refugee visas to work, or even volunteer (yes there are restrictions on volunteering…) so they are integrating into society more, it must be awful to live in limbo without the ability to do more for themselves or their family.

Every damn time. I did just find a bunch of mine that my husband put into a box, one ADHD person and one near-obsessive cleaner makes for a fun mix in our house 😅

As much as that would be hilarious… no when water is set out ahead of time they’ll put a little paper cover on the tops of the glasses to get dust or whatever from getting in there. Now as to why he clearly hadn’t drunk from that glass… 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Flash the hazards twice, also works as a thank you for letting me merge in or whatever, it’s pretty common in the UK.

I have gone to using a single hazard flash when people are in front of me as well instead of flashing high beams(reserved as the head tap equivalent for cars) because I hate when people blind me at night trying to thank me… high beams are way brighter than they used to be.

Wouldn’t it be a trifle rather than a tart?

The pitter-patter of tiny paws has brought joy – and more than a little chaos – to Hyde Park in London as hundreds of dachshunds and their owners gathered for the annual sausage dog Christmas walk.

Now in its eighth year, the event was started by Ana Rodriguez as a way to help her dachshund, Winston, socialise as a puppy. Meeting at noon by the Physical Energy statue in the centre of the park, the dogs – well, the owners really – competed in a best-dressed competition before enjoying an hour of play and socialising before the parade. Rodriguez said previous years’ events had ended up attracting as many as a thousand people and dogs.

Dachshunds may only have little legs, but the Royal Kennel Club still recommends they enjoy up to an hour’s exercise a day. Koda was making his debut at the event with his owner, Alice. “We’ve been to dachshund cafes before,” she said. “It’s so cute. I’ve got spare costumes for him in case he gets wet, and a sling to carry him home on the tube. He’ll probably fall asleep.”

Ian had travelled from St Albans with Daisie. “It brings everyone together,” he said. “It’s just lovely, isn’t it? Dachshunds migrate towards each other, don’t they?”

Costumes included a dog wearing a box to resemble a present, and another dachshund dressed as a reindeer pulling a miniature sleigh. The breed is not known to be cooperative with clothes, although three-year-old Otto tolerated his owner, Berfin, putting a Christmas scarf on him as they waited for a bus at Green Park to head to the event. “He’s used to posing for photographs though,” she added, as her boyfriend is a photographer.

Mo and Jen, who were there with Pedro, sporting a fetching tinsel necklace, said they had always had dachshunds and that Pedro was their third.

“The previous two both lived to 17,” Jen said, leading Mo to joke that Pedro might outlive him. “They are so human,” Mo said. “They just want to spend time with their owners.”

The dachshund breed originated in Germany, where it was developed as a hunting dog, adept at tracking wounded prey or entering tunnels to seek out badgers and rabbits. It has undergone a huge rise in popularity in the UK in the last decade, with registration on the breed soaring. But the only thing the sausage dogs in Hyde Park were hunting for on Sunday, however, were treats. “They are really special,” Rodriguez said. “Loving, protective, and the most loyal dogs ever.”
