  • Yeah Wayland support apparently doesn't come shipped with the KDE install on EndeavourOS, Last time to tried to get it running was on an older version of Ubuntu a few months back.

    I'll install it and try it out now tho thanks.

  • When I tried Wayland on Gnome using my RTX3080 it either wouldn't load into desktop or if I did it would lead to a bunch of visual glitches.

    Haven't tried it through KDE yet tho as it requires some backend hackery to even allow you enable Wayland with an Nvidia card.

    Edit: So some people have been able to get Wayland working on Nvidia fine so it's worth trying out yourself, Tho I've personally not had any luck.

  • Thug Pro for Tony Hawk's Underground 2.

    Plutonium for multiple older Call of Duty games.

    IW4x for Modern Warfare 2 (2009), IW4x was DMCA'd semi recently but the mod still works, it's just no longer being maintained and the server browser has a few bugs.

    Even for games I've bought off Steam I still use community run multiplayer mods a lot because they tend to either add more functionality or replace dead servers for older games.

  • I dunno why I didn't jump on the KDE train sooner, I think it's default setup is already a better user experience than Windows 10/11, and doesn't feel like I'm fighting against the desktop like with Gnome.

    The ease of tweaking even small things I really appreciate. Feels like an actual upgrade in the UI/UX space from what I've been used to from years of hacking together tweaks and programs on other desktops.

    I've gotten used to the terminal and I'm no stranger to editing config files but I still find myself saying 'This could literally be a toggle or drop down menu'

    I can mostly put up with it but I got friends who REALLY hate digging into files for basic stuff like global dark mode, If it's not in a GUI it's as good as none existent to some.

  • It's like to throw in Youtube Redux.

    It's main function is to restore the older desktop look/feel of pre 2016ish Youtube, but it's insanely customizable and good for cutting down on random buttons or features you don't care about.

    Only downside is it's being maintained by one guy and it's abit slow to be updated sometimes.

  • In my journey away from corpo bullshit into more open-source stuff and trying to pull my friends along, I've come to realize convenience is a hard drug to ween off.

    It's almost impossible convincing some people to give up on cloud services because anything that's more effort than logging into one account on a new device is too much. It's not like these people are new to tech either, their patience has just been eroded over time by (usually invasive) convenience features.

    In my journey away from corpo bullshit into more open-source stuff and trying to pull my friends along, I've come to realize convenience is a hard drug to ween off.

    Also gonna state I don't think making tech more convenient is a bad thing, doing so without encroaching on peoples privacy and freedom should be the goal.

  • The only game I wasn't able to play while trying Linux was Rust.

    Most EasyAntiCheat games seem to work if the dev gives a shit and I was able to play Battlefield 4 and 1 with Punkbuster fine.

  • I think it's Proton plus how un-userfriendly Windows has become, I know atleast 2 people who switched on their desktop because they could avoid Windows 11 while still playing their steam library, And handful a more who are looking into doing the same when Win10 goes EOL.

  • Been trying to switch to Linux but sadly back on Windows 10 after using Pop!_OS for the previous month. Half my issues were with the Nvidia and audio drivers the last one was my system randomly not booting and not letting me load a previous restore point I had saved on Timeshift.

    I still want to get on the Linux train since I've been unhappy with Windows since 8 and it's just getting worse and worse. There was a lot of stuff I really liked about Linux from testing in it VMs and my month with Pop!_OS.

  • To bring back the older gui on the newest update use the launch command -vgui

    To do this on Windows right click your Steam shortcut and go into the properties and put -vgui after what's written in the Target section, For most people this will be

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -vgui

    I'd also recommend SFP/SteamFriendsPatcher as it enables a lot more custom theming options.
