  • Libertarian socialist?

Either you're describing anarchism with new words or you've got some really weird views.

Like libraries are a clear no-no under libertarian ideology because it "perturbs the market". If access to something is free then you destroy competition which "breeds innovation" or some shit....

I've just never heard of a libertarian library.... It's so antithetical to the concept!

  • This comic isn't about any of that stuff.

This comic shows that when people who can barely make it complain, the average middle/upper middle class person get upset and fights them. It also shows that this dynamic greatly benefits the very people who benefit unfairly from underpaying the work of the poor (and the middle class).

Upvoting it is just a recognition that this dynamic hurts us all. Maybe someone who sees this will think twice when they hear a poor person complain about their living conditions. Think past their reactionary reflex. If the middle class doesn't fight the poor, the poor can move past that obstacle at least. Maybe if they REALLY think about it they'll join in solidarity, make it easier for the poor to fight for better working conditions. Maybe they won't, it's just a meme.

You're right, the current revolutionary meta isn't worked out enough or universally agreed upon enough to be plausible yet.... But this comic isn't about that. It's just about the fact that this fight helps the exploiters and we shouldn't fight people who want better working and living conditions. This comic can be fixed a minimum wage hike and a tax on the wealthy to mitigate the inflationary pressure this can create.

You're getting down voted because you're protecting a complex set of ideas over a simple cartoon and stating that your interpretation is the only logical conclusion/solution proposal of this cartoon. I don't see any solution proposal here. It feels like a bad faith argumentation on your part against something no one really said. People don't generally support arguments they see as bad faith.

  • How about pharmaceutical companies are not allowed to initiate an interaction with doctors or patients in any way for any reason?

If a doctor/patient has a question they can reach out. If a company has a new treatment they'll publish findings and doctors in the field will find out through data and not marketing.

  • Every city needs a vision zero plan. It is not acceptable for pedestrians to die on the streets they live in for the crime of walking.

  • In your example everyone is throwing knives. Not throwing knives gets you shunned where you might starve to death. Leaders repeatedly make speeches about how children who get hit by knives are a tragedy, but we're already doing our best! This is explicitly to ease social guilt and confound the morals of everyone who doesn't have the luxury of being able to sit down and study the system.

I can't blame the people in that system for hitting kids with throwing knives. In fact the ones who hit kids are doubly traumatized because they have to live with the consequences of actions they were coerced into performing. This is especially true if they were also hit by a knife as a kid!

I blame the system and the people running it. You should too. It's deeply childish to assume everyone shares the privilege required for having a proper leftist worldview in a system that literally criminalizes it. Someone is facing 20 years in jail for having a leftist zine with a feminist review of midsommar right now and you expect every parent to have a critical understanding of economic and social coercion???

  • The boobs on the left are nice to look at, but the ones on the right daaaayum that's nice. Because of our societal expectation of bras at all times for all women, when you see boobs like on the right it's because a woman has chosen to be vulnerable and it's extra intimate.

The boobs on the left are boobs you get to see, the ones on the right are the boobs you might get to touch!

  • This scene is straight up from world war z. Hordes of emaciated people running to the only food source for miles around being gunned down.

How can someone look at this and argue this isn't genocide. How bad would your life have to get for YOU to run towards these tanks for food, this is how bad their life is.

  • In Canada we have the same thing. You can every year when filling taxes tick off a box to update your voter info to save you the work. You also can register at the voting booth with ID, or proof of residence, or the statement of a registered voter in the area willing to vouch for you.

    Basically zero voter fraud.

Voter ID and registration laws are pure voter suppression!

  • water.fanack.com/desalination-plants-water-weapon-gulf/

The American Israeli coalition directly and intentionally destroyed a desalination plant in Iran. Barhain's desalination plant was damaged by debris from a drone strike on another target. Those are very different statements and very different levels of destruction.

But yes, they're soft targets if the people attacking you are complete degenerates willing to commit way crimes!

  • I think you're potentially looking at this wrong. They might be dependent.... Or they might be in COMMUNITY with their families.

If they're in their 40's their parents are in their 60's-70's. Is it possible these adults have a relationship of give and take where they each lean on the other for different things? Maybe her dad takes care of car maintenance for the family, her mom manages medical needs and she manages other aspects of their shared lives?

Although it's certainly possible, I find it hard to believe parents of a 40 year old are somehow coerced or guilted into an unfair arrangement.

Maybe we have different life experiences in this regard...

  • Bad Photoshop will always be better than good AI!

  • Yeah that's the best part. If you watch the vid, it's clear that the police did most of the damage, but the senator was right in the way "helping" trying to get the "good PR" and he caught all the blame. Absolutely beautiful turn of events!

Except for the marine.... Having your hands broken for telling the truth is brutal. No one wants to die for Israel's wars of aggression.

  • Except the whole point is that it's free and you're not selling anything anyways.

  • That's not the original intent. In the US, HOAs were mostly created after the end of segregation to keep black people out of white neighborhoods, an origin story that puts into context the modern of pettiness and desire to control others we see in stories like this.

In the early postwar period after World War II, many [HOAs] were defined to exclude African Americans and, in some cases, Jews, with Asians also excluded on the West Coast.

A racial covenant in a Seattle, Washington, neighborhood stated, "No part of said property hereby conveyed shall ever be used or occupied by any Hebrew or by any person of the Ethiopian, Malay or any Asiatic race."

When these were found unconstitutional in 1948, they became private contacts until those became illegal in 1968, but because HOAs had to approve new members/buyers, the rules stayed in effect until the majority of a community decided to stop being racist. On top of that, in 1963 the Federal Housing Administration said they would only insure mortgages on homes with an HOA which is really what created suburban sprawl and the ghettoization of the American inner cities.

If you look at the history of HOAs it's really a long and protracted fight on all levels by racists and bigots against the Civil Rights movement.

     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeowner_association

TL;DR: Although conceptually HOAs are a good idea, even trending towards communalism, actually existing HOAs are, with a few exceptions, downright regressive, often criminally so.

  • Yeah, that's fair. In leftist spaces we should have healthy debate. We just can't let that undermine solidarity with our more and less radical members.

  • I get what you're saying, but we need both of you, and we need you to stop fighting.

We only win enough power to deal with fascism (which will kill millions at this rate) and eventually climate change (which is going to kill billions of people) if we use EVERY strategy available to us. Progressive like electing the best democrats we can, socialist like labour action, and radical like actually fighting an unjust system.

But most importantly we have to stop fighting eachother. People like you need to hold their noses and vote at every election they can for the best candidate they can. People like wuffah will need to tolerate well targeted revolutionary action without publicly criticizing the left.

  • Somehow, the idea that Trump would sacrifice his chances of winning a manly bigly war to own the libs, is just the right combination of idiotic and hate filled that it feels plausible.
