  • Cool story, the jury will still consider it murder.

  • That still would be barred by Bostock v. Clayton County, 590 U.S. 644 (2020). If they do any on that basis they'd instantly get sued. 7/9 of the justices are the same since then. 4 members of the majority remain on the court and the two new appointments both should be predicted to uphold the precedent.

  • This one has been involved in multiple incidents seemingly involving her. They also apparently have a security guard so non zero chance someone was working graveyard shift.

  • Why would you have your default as sort by controversial?

  • "Republican play book" dude it's Connecticut. And none the less Hartford. That city hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1971.

The issue is that educational funding is predominantly on the municipal level, rather than the state level.

The only mention in the article about Republicans is the CT Republicans being outraged about how the schools have failed this child. Which is entirely justifiable.

But rather than look at the underlying system issues lets resort to flinging mud at people who had zero impact in the current situation.

  • Yeah that's how it works.

  • Other comments in this thread reflect a lack of appreciation for the prior system. Once upon a time the king's men could arrest legislators unfavorable to him to bar unfavorable legislation. Today we have legislation barring the arrest of representatives while the house is in session.

  • Do you know the name of the member of your state's House of Representatives that represents your district? When was the last time you spoke to your federal representative? Do he/she not answer your calls because they have to many constituents? Talk to people in your neighborhood about the need for more representatives in the house.

All sovereign power comes from the people. Read: you are that guy.

  • They mandate trigger warnings for pictures of cheese.

Base line Lemmy has a left skew. Hexbear people are the basis for probably a quarter of conservatives talking points.

  • Most of the SAR is voluntareer based here. There are several regional SAR groups all made of ordinary people who help the state in their free time. The $2k is an average not fixed amount. Depending on circumstances it'll be higher or lower.

  • Good mod. Clearly has touched grass.

  • I was going to make my own comment but this hits the nail on the head. Civil discussion. They or you may be wrong but make your point and let them make theirs and may the strongest prevail.

Assert your point but don't be mean.

  • In my state SAR is free unless the person was doing something really dumb. Eg. Avalanche victim = free. Vs. Hypothermia evac from winter hiking without a coat = ~$2k total.

  • And if your aunt was a man, she'd be your uncle.

If I create a community and it gets 1k members I'm not a businessman.

  • Somewhere there's an alt history timeline where Russia never sold Alaska and the USSR had possession of it during the Cold War.

I think a lot of the value in hindsight is just getting another world power off of North America.

  • NCVS data isn't limited to murders or just homicides. And even if reports by victims or surviving members of their families was a significant issue it'd be mooted by the fact the core value of this study isn't how much data shows in any one year but how it cross compares to other years.

  • Each year's data is relative to the past years data. NCVS is about as good as it gets and is probably better than the UCR for this type of data.

  • A) The National Crime Victimization Survey surveys victims and their surviving relatives.

    B) The economy ≠ the poverty rate. But towards the point, what does you even mean. The existence of a statistic doesn't deny the reality of those victimized. It simply expresses the commonality of an occurrence.

People are living in a fantasy world perpetuated by a media that stands to gain by over reporting tragedies while being silent on any good news. Pointing out statistics may lead people to trust the unreliable sources less. But that is a good thing. And knowledge of statistics is critical in coming to policy conclusions.

  • A stateless society is one with a power vacuum. Some one will claim the title of leader and often it'll be someone of little virtue.
