  • Natural language is really messy.. Could go through many variants on things. Then you get text to speech issues due to audio quality / accents.. And you need an engine that can "best guess / best match" based on what it has or ask for clarification.

Similarly you can ask for TWO of a complex thing: I would like Two.... meals, with,,, XXXX

  • An LLM can somewhat smooth over variances in language without having to have all possible variances known just the valid options and the raw input.

    • I would like a Big Mac, no lettuce, no tomato, no cheese.
    • I would like a Big Mac, no vegies, hold the cheese.
    • I would like a Big Mac, no vegies, no dairy
  • Mc Donald's already has customer self serve kiosks and mobile apps with the full menu that limit you as to which items you can add or remove.

How did they screw this up and leave things open ended for the LLM?

IE why was the LLM not referencing a list of valid options with every request and then replying with what the possible options are. This is something LLMs are actually able to do fairly well, then layer on top the EXACT same HARD constraints they already have on the kiosk and mobile app to ensure orders are valid?

  • To be used in most recycling programs you would need to fully remove the foil lid, and rinse out every k-cup before depositing them in recycling.

  • piped... for privacy... O wait you need to log in first.

  • McDonald’s Angus Burger , only burger they sold for several years that didn’t taste like cardboard.

  • Lemmy is public, no one is going to want to use it for discussion of those topics.

  • Cost of living has skyrocketed, wages have hardly budged, and people are really, really struggling.

True.. However it does appear to be slowing a bit for both the US and Canada

    https://blog.bham.ac.uk/cityredi/redi-updates-how-does-the-cost-of-living-crisis-compare-internationally/

People’s standards of living are decreasing

Famines are already being massively exacerbated by climate change, you just don’t hear about them because they’re happening in poor countries.

    https://ourworldindata.org/a-history-of-global-living-conditions

There is far less poverty in the world today than in the past.

Everything points to all our previous warnings about climate change being incredibly conservative.

Probably true, but we also appear to be on the edge of a massive move away from fossil fuels to renewables with the cost of solar dropping, grid level battery systems replacing old coal / natural gas peaker plants etc and the move is no longer just about the "environment" these technologies are in some ways superior or cheaper as well which will accelerate adoption

  • Only thing that is worse in my mind is the "media" no longer news and "social media" both are largely negative and both are full of misinformation these days.

Housing costs may also be a negative..

Other than that MOST things seem better, we just can't enjoy anything since the media/social media keeps telling us what we should fear and hate.

  • Not factoring in the monthly fee? Cost per Oder ? Tip?

Most restaurants you call ahead and just pickup your order when it is ready. Gas food places almost all have online order apps to do the same.

It is convenient but if you are using these services multiple times a month you are spending WAY more on dining out

  • In general ordering direct and doing pickup is WAY cheaper than any of the delivery options.

  • All of my kids messages are super short or emoji filled, my wife, friends and older contacts all text to text me full paragraphs or sentences.

    Need some examples

  • I am somewhat neutral on her, when she was introduced I kind of felt she was a gender swapped bones to setup the bones / spock dynamic but with data.

Sadly the only thing I remember her for is being mean to data, getting rapidly aged, and replacing Picard’s heart, that is 3 out of 22 episodes she is credited in.

For me Crusher vs Pulaski somewhat comes down to bedside manner/ compassion. Pulaski just comes across as a bit blunt and prickly at times and Pulaski just has fewer memorable episodes due to only having the one season.

  • Proton is built on top of wine for windows compatibility. The wine project has been very careful to independent build its compatible versions of libraries. There should be no Microsoft code in wine.

  • Interesting how MS is the reasonable one here where all their copilot stuff clearly separates paying business from free consumer stuff for training / not training.

However slack has gone and said they will train on everything, and ONLY the paying companies can request to opt out.

Too bad so sad for all those small dev teams that have been using the "free" version of slack.. No option to opt out.

  • Other states are irrelevant only the true condition implied matters, it is or isn’t that one state.

is_person_standing, is_standing, bStanding all tell you if someone is standing or NOT standing. Nothing else period. It does not matter if there could be other states as the test is one specific case.

  • You game in desktop mode? I can give it a shot, but performance always seems kind of wonky in desktop mode when outputting to my TV

  • How exactly did you start remote play together with Shredders revenge? In some games it is part of the in game invite option, for others I have tried just triggering it from the steam menu while the game is running as I didn’t see a native option. For shedders revenge when I triggered it from the menu none of the controllers appeared for mapping.
