  • This New England white ethnostate sounds a lot like a similar movement in the north west.

    People have been talking about hacking off the eastern part of Washington — from the Cascades to Idaho — since at least 1915. But recently, creating a bastion of God-fearing, gun-toting, canned-food eating whiteness where conservatives can survive the End Times has been embraced by survivalists and dubbed the American Redoubt — an idea that’s gained enough interested parties to demand an actual corner of the real estate market.

    Luckily, one of the leaders of this movement in Eastern WA, Matt Shea, has kind of fallen off the face of the earth after being outed as a right wing nut job and alleged terrorist. I wouldn't be shocked at all to learn this movement is regrouping and will rear its ugly head again in the near future.

  • I guess none of us should have been surprised that a "moderate" Federalist Society conservative would drag his feet for fear of retribution from his own party. The best thing Garland has done for this country is assign Jack Smith as a special prosecutor. The next best thing he can do is resign so that perhaps an AG with intestinal fortitude can replace him.

    Woah woah woah woah, did they say this? A cursory Google search only came back with results stating he won't lose their protection in prison, not that they won't allow him to be put away.

    As I have the right to celebrate all the recent unprecedented actions by DOJ (I must concede that DOJ dragged their feet on a lot of this, and that it's pretty clear there's a two-tiered system for the rich "important" types and the rest of us plebs), you certainly have the right to doubt that this all will lead to anything significant. I have nothing to support my belief that the Orange One has finally reached the "FO" stage of FAFO but the indictments that have occurred thus far. However, I will say with confidence that these indictments aren't entirely meaningless (particularly the docs case), and that their unprecedented nature should be celebrated. The DOJ has taken steps that have literally never been taken before in our history as a country (the indictment of a former president), and while some might say justice delayed is justice denied, I still think that a slow response is better than no response at all.

    That all said, I understand feeling skeptical or even hopeless at this point (I certainly felt that way after Impeachment Trial 2). Here's hoping, though, that we'll at least get to witness justice finally being served and that any pardons will be moot (I mean, c'mon, the guy's old!) if a Republican president is elected again any time soon!

  • Why risk children’s health or even death?

    Because, a dangerous number of folks with a proclivity for believing disinformation/misinformation and/or with (in my opinion) Oppositional Defiant Disorder didn't believe COVID 19 was all that serious and/or refused to be "told what to do". They put our children in danger because they know better than the experts, or because "YOU'Re NOt The BOsS OF mE NOw!", or some combination of both.
