Why do so many criminal cases involve or at least include the keyword "roommate"?

I swear to god, almost every criminal writeup i read involve the influence or presence of a roommate. Unnatural as fuck areangement, you're literally a 2nd or 3rd class citizen until you dont have someone attached to you that can consent to have your space invaded
